Festivities
Pairing: Sam/Janet
Rating: pg
Spoilers: none
Disclaimer: I don't own them, I just take them out to play every once in a while.

AN: This idea came to me after watching some Stargate: SG1 behind the scenes interviews, and a discussion about not knowing where one comment came from- so I made something up. It really is completely random, and actually can be based in [livejournal.com profile] elfcat255's OT3 universe (don't ask it just worked out that way.)

Anyway, read and enjoy (you don't need to have read [livejournal.com profile] elfcat255's stuff to understand this).

Festivities

"Why do we always come out surrounded by trees? Is it some form of cosmic joke that the stargate must be under the coverage of green leafy things?" General Jack O'Neill whined as the five members of the team made their way down the steps from the platform the stargate stood on.

"No Sir, there have been a number of planets where the gate has been surrounded by deserts," stated Carter matter-of-fact.

"That's different, those are desert planets."

"And, Jack, don't forget that one planet where the leaves were all blue and turned purple in the spring," Daniel spoke up from the rear of the team where he was tinkering with a random artifact.

"Thank you, Daniel. I think we all needed to reminded of that freaky place."

The six members of the team had just wandered through the gate on their way to P3X-747, and had found themselves in the middle of yet another wooded area. As they made their way to the forest edge, they could see the village in the distance. They could already hear the laughter of children and the cheers of the villagers in the distance. Apparently, according to SG-8, the villagers were preparing for their spring planting festival, and there would be much celebration in the days to come. They had extended an invitation to the SG flag team to be esteemed guests of honor, especially since the team had been instrumental in saving their little planet- or according to Sam, their moon- a time or two. It had not taken much convincing until Jack had agreed to go through the gate once again, especially when it was to a celebration that he held so dear to his heart.

"So, Jack, tell us again why you like this festival so much," Vala questioned as she bounced up next to the grey haired man.

"Well, it’s a time of renewal, of celebration and jocularity." O'Neill stumbled over his words as his hand made grandiose movements in front of him.

As he looked around he noticed all five of his companions had their eyebrows raised and were looking at him skeptically.

"Oh, okay, fine. They have this really good butter rum, and some of the young women do a dance to celebrate the rebirth, or something or other, and it is really hot."

"Really?" Vala perked up at the though, "I can't wait."

It was Jack's turn to look skeptical as swiveled his head to face the younger woman. "Can't wait for what, the butter rum, or the scantily clad women?"

"Both!" She replied perkily as she skipped forward to catch up with Carter, who had taken the lead.

"Oh, a woman after my own heart."

As they entered the village, the members of the team looked around, taking in the atmosphere- the area was bubbling with activity. Some of the young girls and boys seemed to be practicing a dance around a May Pole, and the older children were doing a routine which involved throwing large flags in the air and spinning them around, while a small band warmed up in the background.

The night progressed with much celebration. The butter rum and wheat beer was flowing readily, and the men had been enthralled with the polo like game that was being played on horseback. The cheering could be heard all throughout the town, and drew more and more people towards the field, including Carter and Teal'c. Jack, Vala and some other members of the SG team found themselves stuck to the fire where the women were dancing though, and after liberal amounts of alcohol Vala was getting mighty frisky and Sam, who had also partaken in the alcohol, found herself being plowed down by the drunk woman as she came in search of her friends. The scandal of seeing two women making out made some of the men let out loud whoops, some of the younger women twitter in amusements and wonder, and one older woman fainted into Daniel's arms in shock. Just then the children paraded by, throwing and twirling their bright flags in the air.

Jack leaned over to Cam who was on his side, and Teal'c, who was watching Daniel struggle with the unconscious woman, and said in a staged whisper, "It's a sign."

-----

After two days full of inebriated celebration, fun, and attempting to keep the men of the team from doing anything completely idiotic, Sam finally made it home, and practically collapsed against the wooden door once she closed it behind her. Vala was due to arrive later, after she slept off her hangover at the SGC. As she slumped against the door, a smaller figure came up and wrapped her arms around Sam's waist. "How was the festival?"

In her exhausted state Sam wrapped her arm around her partner's shoulders and made her way to the couch. As she plopped down she let out a puff of air, "Oh, you know, the usual…the men cheered, the women fainted and the children waved multi colored flags."
