Challenge: Sam/Janet, Sam’s lab, experiment gone wild
Disclaimer: No ownership, simply fluff.
"Doc, come quick. Something’s wrong with Carter,” Jack shouts as he races into the infirmary.
Dropping everything, I grab a medical kit from a nearby table and run after the fast-moving Colonel. After a few turns, it becomes apparent that we are heading toward Sam’s lab.
Oh no, I’ve finally make some headway with her, and the last thing I need is for her to lose the few memories we’ve shared. Just last night, I swear she was going to kiss me before she nervously jumped up and told me goodnight.
Please let her be okay, and in one piece with all her faculties still intact. I’d hate to start back at square one.
Turning the corner, Jack steps back and allows me to enter first. Teal’c has Sam in a body lock from behind while Daniel speaks softly to her, and what is that?
I move slowly into the room and focus on Sam’s mouth. Tape? They put duct tape on her mouth. What the hell is going on here?
“Teal’c, let her go, and Daniel, please step back,” I order in my best command voice.
Neither man complies, so I open my mouth to give it to them with both barrels, but Daniel’s soft plea stops me in my tracks.
“Janet, we had to restrain her; she’s tried to run from the room twice already. Jack ordered Teal’s to stop her and then went to get you, and Sam put the tape on her own mouth. I think I may know a little something about her problem, but right now, we need to make sure she doesn’t get away.”
Sam’s eyes haven’t left mine since I entered the room. Her pupils are dilated and her respiration is very fast. Something is definitely scaring her because her muttering hasn’t stopped for a second.
Opening the medical kit, I grab a syringe and a vial. I need to get her sedated before her heart beats out of her chest.
Sam struggles when I approach, but she is no match for Teal’s strength. Within seconds, she has slumped into his arms.
Sam struggles when I approach, but she is no match for Teal’s strength. Within seconds, she has slumped into his arms.
“Okay, Teal’c. Lay her down and let me examine her.”
“As you wish, Doctor Frasier,” Teal’c responds as he very gently lowers Sam to the floor.
“Colonel, I’d like you and Teal’c to leave the room. I've only given Sam a mild sedative, but Daniel can assist me if I need help.”
“Okay, but we’ll be right outside this door if you need us,” Jack replies as he looks worriedly at an unconscious Sam.
The two men exit the room and softly close the door behind them. I immediately turn my attention to Sam and note that she is resting peacefully as I slowly remove the tape from her mouth.
“Daniel, what happened?” I ask the archeologist while I take a few vital signs.
He runs his hand nervously through his hair and sighs.
“I was working on some scrolls over in the corner, and Sam was looking through the microscope. I believe she was examining traces of a fiber SG-7 collected on their last mission. All of a sudden, she starts to reel off different things from her childhood. It was like she was confessing to every lie she’s ever told, small or large. It was obvious she couldn’t help herself; her eyes got huge when she realized what she was doing. I just sat there like an idiot listening to her. I didn’t know what to do. When she got to the present, she grabbed a roll of duct tape and cut a piece to put on her mouth. I had to stop her from running away, and then Jack and Teal’c came into the room.”
During Daniel’s explanation, I move to sit on the floor and place Sam’s head in my lap. I softly stroke her hair the entire time Daniel describes his observations. I look up at the archeologist when I realize he is no longer speaking.
“Um, Janet? I think I may know why Sam was trying to run away,” Daniel quietly offers.
“Why?” I ask in concern.
“Right before she was able to stop her jabbering by putting the tape on her mouth, she confessed to being in love with someone,” Daniel cryptically says.
His words crush my soul, and my shoulders immediately slump in dejection. I’m too late; I waited too long to try to work on a relationship with this beautiful women. Why am I always the last to know?
My internal musings come to a halt as a soft voice fills the room, a decidedly female voice. I look down into Sam’s tearful blue eyes as she repeats her affirmation.
“You, Janet. I’m in love with you,” Sam confesses.
Daniel smiles at the two of us and reaches out to pat Sam on the shoulder. Standing to leave, he says, “I’ll be outside with Jack and Teal’c. Don’t worry Sam; your secret is safe with me.”
I wait until Daniel has left the room before I question Sam any further.
“Hey, there. How are you feeling?”
“Truthfully?” Sam replies with a grin.
“Okay, smart ass. You know what I mean. Daniel said you weren’t able to control your speech, but it looks like everything is okay now,” I say as I reach down to check her pulse.
“It was really scary, Janet. I mean, I’ve not done too many dishonest things in my life, but to have myself uncontrollably blurt out each situation was very disconcerting. I have to admit though, pardon the pun, I only confessed to things that really bothered me deep down. I guess my love for you has been eating away at me for quite some time, and I was feeling guilty that I have been too scared to admit it to you,” Sam softly explains.
“Sam, are you in love with Jack?”
“What? Are you nuts? Of course, I’m not in love with him! Didn’t you just hear a word I said?” Sam replies in an obvious agitated tone.
Reaching out, I stroke her cheek and answer, “Sorry, but I had to be sure you were no longer under the effects of whatever it was that you were studying. Yes, I heard you, and yes, the feeling is mutual.”
Sam moves to touch my face, but a knock on the door has her pulling her hand back as if she’d been shocked. I smile at her in understanding as she relaxes back into my lap.
“Hey, Doc. What’s the verdict? Is she nuts or what?” Jack asks in his usual blunt style.
“No, Colonel. Major Carter is quite sane, but to be certain, I want to observe her for the next forty eight hours. You need to assign someone to this lab to try to determine what went wrong,” I reply to Sam’s commanding officer.
“Aw, Janet, I hate the infirmary. Please, can you lighten my sentence by at least a day?” Sam pleads with me.
“Actually, Sam, I have the next two days off, so I thought you would stay with me. I’d like to keep a close eye on you,” I respond with a slight wink.
“Okay Carter, you heard the Doc. Teal’c, help Major Carter to Doctor Frasier’s car,” Jack orders as he once again takes over a situation.
However, this time I’m going to let him be responsible for everything. Right now, I am going to concentrate on Sam and the building of our relationship.
Teal’c assists a groggy Sam from the floor, and the two move to leave the lab as I follow closely behind.
“Hey, Carter. Don’t give the Doc any trouble. You do exactly as she says,” Jack commands in a teasing tone.
Sam turns back to the Colonel and says, “Don’t worry, Sir. I promise to behave. I even promise to tell our esteemed doctor the truth, and nothing but the truth, from now on.”
Smiling, I move to Sam’s other side and put my arm around her waist.
“Thanks, Teal’c, but I can take it from here.”
Teal’c stands back and nods his head leaving Sam to depend solely on me to get her to the car.
Side by side, we walk out of the base and head toward our future by way of my SUV.
The truth shall indeed set you free.
