No challenge... it's a fluff I wrote awhile ago

AN: This has been posted elsewhere many moons ago, however I edited it a little and thought to offer it here so that the site has a fresh story :) Familiarity with a 20+ year old movie is helpful... gosh, how long ago was I 8? Enjoy, and feedback is welcome.

“Alex?”

“Shhh…”

Olivia Benson heard the whispered phantom answer as she looked around the room without being able to locate the attorney.

*Oh, over there* she thought, puzzled, as she saw the blonde crouching by the filing cabinet.

“Alex?”

“SHHH….”

Obviously the importance of the search warrant she came for was second fiddle to whatever was going on by the filing cabinet. Olivia slowly and quietly made her way over to the lawyer who, she discovered, was holding a frying pan and kept whispering “shhh…” to the creak of Olivia’s footsteps while emphatically indicating with her free hand that Olivia was to approach her on her left.

The detective carefully lay down on the floor next to the lawyer but with a bit of space to separate her from the frying pan. She was more than a little amused by the odd situation, and secretly wondered if her colleague had gone crazy.

“Alex?”

“It’s right there…”

Olivia’s gaze wandered to the crack between the cabinet and the wall. “Ahh…” she whispered, mystery solved, as tiny whiskers and a sniffing nose peeked from the gap. Her eyes wandered further to discover a piece of cheese and some peanut butter on the floor.

“Alex,” she wanted to be tactful as she stated the obvious, “why don’t you call the exterminator?”

“I saw An American Tail this weekend with my nephew and I can’t do that to Fievel or any possible relative,” came the no-nonsense reply.

Olivia pulled back and looked at her quizzically, earlier ideas of insanity beginning to reassert themselves. “That was a cartoon, Alex,” she whispered, “and if you don’t want to kill the mouse then why do you have a frying pan?”

“Catch and release,” she answered as the mouse bolted for the cheese and the frying pan came down face forward. The creature was trapped and Alex took a jar which she had obviously anticipated using and quickly lifted the pan to transfer ‘Fievel’s cousin,’ as she was now discreetly referring to the animal, to its new and temporary home. Screwing the jar top (littered with air holes she had punctured earlier) onto the jar she then put the mouse on her desk, brushed off her pants, and looked up at Olivia. “The warrant is… right here detective,” she said as she reached across her desk for the blue papers.

“Thanks. We’ll let you know what we find.” Looking at Alex with mild disbelief, Olivia took the warrant being handed to her.

“I’ll expect your call. Oh, and Olivia,” the detective turned as Alex picked up the jar and advanced towards her, “would you mind finding an suitable alley?”

Olivia grinned slightly as she took the jar, “OK.”
