Alex quickly turned her attention back to the television, squinting to be certain who she was seeing was actually who she was seeing.
“What’s she doing on the red carpet? She hasn’t done a movie in ages, and where are the fashion police? If anyone deserves to be arrested it’s her,” the ADA stated, waving her hand toward the flat screen in a desperate attempt to push the woman from view.
“No kidding. How many farewell tours can a performer have anyway?” Olivia chimed in just as a knock sounded at the door.
Groaning, Olivia pushed herself from the couch and headed for their guests, calling back over her shoulder, “Be sure to take notes. I don’t want to miss anything.”
The detective opened the door to find two women who’d definitely not be mistaken for anyone on the red carpet, at least not in the clothes sense anyway. Abbie had on an old pair of sweat pants with a mismatched top, and Serena’s jeans had more holes than seams.
With a crooked grin, Abbie asked, “Well, aren’t you going to ask us in?” She quickly lifted her two arms to show the gifts she’d brought and added, “I got beer.”
Smiling, Olivia reached out and relieved Abbie of her load, offering, “C’mon in; Alex is in the den. I’ll just put this on ice.”
The two women stepped into the apartment and headed toward the couch where Alex was carrying on a one-sided conversation with the television.
“Now, that’s more like it. Leave it to the English to show come class.”
Laughing, Serena moved to take the seat next to her friend and immediately made herself at home. She placed the bowl of popcorn in her lap and proceeded to grab a handful of the popped kernels, asking, “What’ve I missed?”
