Title: A False Alarm
Author: Ann

Pairing: Sara/Sofia
Challenger: [personal profile] ncruuk
Challenge: Any couple, police vehicle, citrus fruit
Disclaimers: No ownership, simply fluff

I speed down the Interstate heading for an abandoned warehouse. Since I am the only member of the team not currently assigned to a case, I am the most likely candidate to waste two hours on what will probably turn out to be nothing.

My life has been turned upside down these past two weeks. A couple of weekends ago, Sofia and I  finally admitted our feelings for each other and spent all night Saturday and most of the day Sunday in bed. The sex was great, but there seems to be so much more to this relationship. It’s like we’ve known each other our entire lives. We’re comfortable talking or just sitting in silence. I can’t wait until we can get together again, and therein lies the problem.

Ever since that glorious Sunday, I have been working non-stop. First, Lindsey got sick, and I had to cover for Catherine, and then Greg and Nick had to go to a conference for their mandatory hours. I’ve pretty much only gone home to shower and sleep. These fifteen hours days are killing me, and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight now that we are short on the swing shift.

Sighing, I turn off the Interstate and take the next exit. I sure hope LVPD sent someone out here as well. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a scaredy cat or anything, but I wouldn’t mind having some backup in case a problem arises.

I pull in next to the police cruiser and turn off my lights.  Grabbing my flashlight, I head for the open warehouse door with my hand on the butt of my gun. I step inside and call out, “Hey, anyone here?”

A noise to my left causes me to quickly turn my light in the direction of the sound. My heart is beating out of my chest, and I suddenly decide that maybe it would have been a good idea to have stayed in the car until the patrolman found me.

I move my hand to release my pistol when a deep chuckle sounds from behind me. Shit, how could I have let someone get the drop on me? I panic as arms reach around me and pull me against a hard body.

Fighting my assailant, I struggle to get the upper hand, but he is in the better position. I am almost ready to try to stomp on his instep when his voice pulls me up short.

“Hey Sara, it’s me. I shouldn’t have scared you, but it seemed like a funny idea at the time. Relax, baby, I’ve got you.”

Sofia. I should have known by the scent of her perfume. Donna Karan’s Cashmere Mist smells great on her. I guess my adrenaline overloaded all my other senses.

Turning in her arms, I say, “Please don’t ever sneak up on me again. You scared the shit out of me.”

She apologizes with one of the sweetest kisses I’ve ever received. Releasing my lips, she replies, “I promise to never frighten you again. I just wanted us to have some time together. Grissom has been working you too hard.”

I look around the warehouse and ask, “So what’s the deal with the suspicious circs? Did some idiot misidentify some animal bones?”

Sofia looks at the floor and replies, “Not exactly.”

What? I mean, someone must have called this in or else we wouldn’t be here. I cautiously ask, “What do you mean by not exactly?”

She shifts her weight from foot to foot and explains, “I sort of told a little white lie. I, um, called dispatch and asked for a CSI to be sent out. I had talked to you earlier, and you indicated that you would be the next one assigned.”

Oh my God, little Miss By the Book orchestrated this entire thing. She called in this false alarm to lure me out here. Well, I’ll be damned. She must really like me.

Stepping forward, I lift her chin up and place a soft kiss on her lips. I pull away and say, “You know. No one has ever broken the law before just so they could see me. I’m actually kind of flattered.”

Without a word, she takes my hand and leads me from the warehouse to the cruiser. Confused, I follow her lead.

Opening the door to the back seat, she motions me into the vehicle. I move to the middle and notice a small basket sitting on the floorboard. I lift the lid to find bread, cheese, and two cokes.

Laughing, I say, “You can call in a false alarm, but you can’t partake of alcohol on duty. I think I love you, Sofia Curtis.”

We both freeze at my statement, and I’m as surprised as she is by those three little words. As I open my mouth to take them back, she replies, “Yeah, its scary isn’t it. I think I’m falling for you, too.”

Smiling, I offer her some bread and cheese as we sit in the back of the police cruiser having a midnight picnic. Hey, what is she doing in a police cruiser?

I voice my question, and she replies, “The battery on my car died, and the mechanic was out so the captain ordered me to drive this until my car is repaired.”

Leaning towards her, I ask, “Ever made it in the back of a police cruiser?”

Sofia meets me halfway and answers, “As a matter of fact, I haven’t. Care to give it a go?”

We begin to kiss passionately when all of a sudden, I pull away and begin to sneeze my head off. I open the other door and step from the vehicle as a chorus of sneezes follows me out.

After a few minutes, I seem to have recovered, but now I become worried that I am allergic to Sofia.  I watch as she steps from the car and opens the front door. Pulling something from the mirror, she walks toward me holding one of those citrus-scented fresheners. I immediately begin to sneeze as she nears me.

Well, that’s good to know. At least I’m not allergic to Sofia, and the chances of me hanging one of those car fresheners from the mirror is slim to none.

Sofia returns the fake looking fruit to the mirror and moves to my side. Hugging me close, she says, “I don’t guess we’ll get to mark sex in a police cruiser off our list.”

Ecstatic that we seem to have a list, I take her hand and lead her to the Denali. Smiling, I reply, “Why don’t we just change the cruiser to a Crime Scene Investigation vehicle? Besides, the seats fold down in this baby.”
